Negative painting is an intriguing, alternative approach that artists can use to create striking, alluring artworks. Working in the negative means that rather than painting the object itself, the shape is created by painting around the object. It's a simple shift in the way you see!! The workshop begins with simple projects designed to teach the student how to understand and develop a painting using negative shapes and glazing. As the workshop progresses the projects become more complex and focus on establishing interpretive underpaintings and building layers with overlapping shapes. A variety of subject matter may be covered including florals and landscapes. Other topics presented may include identifying and developing personal style, design, pigment organization and colour. Linda will lead the class through demonstrations, lectures, cretiques and by individual attention in "hands on" situations. Partticipants can expect an inspiring and creative atmosphere, with an instructor who truly cares about helping students achieve their personal artistic goals. You will then be escorted to The Lord’s Garden in Eden, NY, where Master Gardener Mary Jane Bolo will give a tour of her gardens. She will talk about heirloom plants, designing a bird sanctuary, as well as creating your own perennial gardens. An afternoon luncheon in her quaint tea room with homemade scones, sandwiches, cream teas and dessert will delight. The afternoon will continue on to Windy Acres, an intimate country nursery run by Bev Wojtaszczyk.
